This award, given by the FoodBytes! judges, was established at the San Francisco event in June 2016. It is awarded to a 3.5 minute pitch company. Judges rank each demo company on a 5-point scale, with 1-point being poor to 5-points being excellent in the following areas:

  • Business Model: Is the company on track or building a successful business? Are they addressing their revenue model, competitors, how to scale and customer acquisition
  • Customers: Is the company building something that users want? Do they understand their users’ needs?
  • Sustainability: Does the team/product work to increase food production in a sustainable way? Is it working to improve the triple bottom line – people, profit and planet?
  • Innovation & Impact: How original is the solution? Is it a new/novel approach to solving the problem? What potential does the product have to make an impact in the real world?

The Judge’s Choice winners will also be invited to attend Rabobank’s premier invitation-only Annual Food and Agribusiness Summit in December in New York City.

This award was established at the first FoodBytes! event in San Francisco in 2015 and has been a part of the event ever since. Attendees at FoodBytes! events have the opportunity to vote for the 3.5 minute company that they believe best embodies the judges’ choice criteria following the final pitch. The startup with the most votes is crowned the FoodBytes! People’s Choice Award winner.

The People’s Choice Award winners will be invited to present and display their products at Rabobank’s premier invitation-only Food and Agribusiness Summit in December in New York City. These events attract C-suite representation from over 300 of North America’s leading food, beverage and agribusiness companies.
