We’re getting so close to FoodBytes! San Francisco and are excited about our lineup! We’ve selected the very best in food and agriculture technology and bring the innovation the industry needs to solve our biggest problems.

As we announced last week, our 10 finalist demo companies will be competing during FoodBytes! San Francisco for some coveted prizes, including a new Judges’ Choice Award category. Our judges, attendees and sponsors will all get a hand in giving these companies the chance of a lifetime.

Prizes awarded during FoodBytes! San Francisco will include:

Highly Commended Award

A new award for FoodBytes! with our judges awarding one of the 60-second pitch companies that opens the event with a Highly Commended award. This award reflects the best presentation in the category and will receive:

People’s Choice Award

FoodBytes! attendees will select their favorite demo company by voting via SMS to select the People’s Choice Award winner. The winning company will receive:

  • Tickets to Rabobank’s Client Appreciation Event at Cipriani Wall Street in December to pitch to the audience of leading CEOs & CFOs of leading F&A companies (flights and accommodation to New York included)
  • Access to the IBM Global Entrepreneur program, designed to connect startups to IBM’s global ecosystem of clients, partners, business leaders, and enterprise-grade technology, including:
    • Up to $120K USD of IBM Cloud credits ($10k month for a year)
    • Access to an extensive global network of solutions architects
    • Alignment with IBM as a leading vendor to offer go-to-market and mentor advice to entrepreneurs
  • 2 registrations to Food Business School’s Concept to Shelf in-person innovation intensive OR 2 registrations to Food Business School’s online courses

Judges’ Choice Award

Another first for FoodBytes!, the judges will choose the demo company they deem the most deserving of the Judges Choice Award.

  • RocketSpace Club Membership at the San Francisco Tech Campus for three months for three people – a value of up to $2,700
  • Tickets to Rabobank’s Client Appreciation Event at Cipriani Wall Street in December to pitch to the audience of leading CEOs & CFOs of leading F&A companies (flights and accommodation to New York included)
  • Access to the IBM Global Entrepreneur program, designed to connect startups to IBM’s global ecosystem of clients, partners, business leaders, and enterprise-grade technology, including:
    • Up to $120K USD of IBM Cloud credits ($10k month for a year)
    • Access to an extensive global network of solutions architects
    • Alignment with IBM as a leading vendor to offer go-to-market and mentor advice to entrepreneurs
  • 2 registrations to Food Business School’s online courses

The judges will rank each company on a 5-point scale, with 1-point being poor to 5-points being excellent in each of the following areas:

  • Business Model: Is the team on track or building a successful business? Are they addressing their revenue model, competitors, how to scale and customer acquisition?
  • Customers: Is the team building something that users want? Do they understand their users’ needs?
  • Sustainability: Does the team/product work to increase food production in a sustainable way? Is it working to improve the triple bottom line – people, profit and planet?
  • Innovation & Impact: How original is the solution? Is it a new/novel approach to solving the problem? What potential does the product have to make an impact in the real world? 

At the end of the competition, the company with the most total points will be awarded the Judges’ Choice Award.
