FoodBytes! received almost 200 applications from startups around the world to demo at our San Francisco event on Thursday, June 16. We announced our 10 demo finalists earlier this month, and due to the high caliber of applications we wanted to give additional companies the chance to present their innovative ideas in addition to our finalists.

60-Second Pitch Companies

Opening the event will be ten 60-second pitch companies and these incredible startups are the runners up to our demo finalists and have been hand-selected. You won’t want to miss their innovative solutions to problems in the food and agriculture industry!

The 60-second pitch companies are:

logo_mewe_250xMeWe – MeWe builds mobile software to streamline quality, safety and compliance management across the food industry. They work with hundreds of organizations including national restaurant chains, major retailers and two dozen government agencies. Based in San Francisco, MeWe was founded by a team from Harvard, Columbia and UCLA.

logo_chirps_250xSix Foods | Chirps – Six Foods uses crickets milled into a flour to make high protein tortilla chips (Chirps), with the goal of normalizing insect foods, starting with snacks to meat. The goal is to substitute animal protein with insect protein, thus converting livestock farming to insect farming. By doing so, they will reduce land & water usage, and greenhouse gas emissions.

logo_willowcup_250xWillow Cup, Inc. – Willow Cup is a better-for-you plant based dairy company that specializes in premium indulgences with cleaner labels. Willow’s vision is to own the top of your cup – more flavors and healthier options for your favorite beverage.

logo_foodfully_250xFoodfully – Foodfully is like Mint for Groceries.  The app automatically tracks grocery purchases, allows you to receive spoilage notifications and sends recipes to reduce the main causes of household food waste.

logo_shopwell_250xShopWell – ShopWell puts a nutrition expert in every pocket, making healthy grocery shopping easy.  Their nutrition tracking and recommendation engine is changing how people shop.

logo_hazelanalytics_250xHazel Analytics – Health inspection records are located in highly fragmented databases. Additionally, most U.S. counties have their own unique inspection scoring systems. Hazel Analytics uses software to automatically collect millions of health inspection records then applies a standardized format which is then packaged into an analytics suite that is sold to national chain restaurants on a subscription basis.

Finalist Demo Companies

Following the 60-second pitches, our 10 finalist demo companies will take the stage. These cutting-edge companies from around the world will have the opportunity to give a five-minute pitch followed by five minutes of Q&A with the audience of investors, media, thought leaders and entrepreneurs. FoodBytes! Alumni

While the audience votes and the judges deliberate, we’ll hear from two of our esteemed FoodBytes! alumni companies – Back to the Roots and Kuli Kuli. Both companies demoed their products in San Francisco in 2015 and will talk about how they’ve grown and tell us what’s next for their business and products.

backtotheroot_250xBack to the Roots – Back to the Roots is on a mission to make food personal again through its award-winning line of “ready-to-grow” and “ready-to-eat” products that include the Mushroom Farm, Water Garden, Garden-in-a-Can, Stoneground Flakes Cereal and Breakfast Toppers.

kulikuli_250xKuli Kuli – Kuli Kuli is introducing a new superfood, moringa, to the US market. In doing so, they’re disrupting a global food system that has left nearly a billion people hungry and another billion obese.

Open-Mic Session

After the conclusion of the event program, there will be a 30 minute open-mic session where startups will have the opportunity to present their ideas and products to the attendees in a dedicated area.

This open-mic session will be a first-come, first-serve schedule and will allow attendees and media to see additional startups on the cutting edge of food and ag tech. Startups interested in this opportunity will be able to register for this on the day.
