Rootwave, Mimica and Biokind win top accolades at debut London food and agriculture pitch competition

LONDON, 13 SEPTEMBER 2018 – Today, 20 cutting-edge food and agriculture startups took to the stage to present game-changing solutions for the global challenges facing food production at FoodBytes! London. Rootwave, Mimica and Biokind came out on top at the debut London event from Rabobank, as they presented to a panel of esteemed judges and a full house of corporates and investors. The winners were awarded the top three accolades for their products and technologies offering alternatives to herbicides, animal feed and expiry date labeling.

The winning startups will benefit from mentorship, industry connections and a support network to take their businesses to the next level, including expert counsel from the FoodBytes! family of sponsors. Dairy Crest will guide them on brand expertise, whilst Watson Farley & Williams will offer legal consulting. The winners will also get the opportunity to pitch at Rabobank’s prestigious European Client Event in May 2019, taking place in Ireland. The 20 startups that pitched have a strong focus on precision agriculture, packaging reinvention, food waste innovation and supply chain transparency.

Judges’ Choice Award: Rootwave

FoodBytes! judges selected the winner based on product innovation, market traction, team experience and focus on sustainability, from the 3.5 minute pitch companies. Rootwave was chosen for its pioneering use of electricity to kill weeds and offer scalable and sustainable alternatives to herbicides, improving the environment without the use of chemicals.

Andrew Diprose, CEO commented: “FoodBytes! is an amazing experience and I’d highly recommend any early stage entrepreneur to apply. The exposure, publicity and potential for relationship building is second to none and we want to thank the FoodBytes! team.”

Solveiga Pakštaitė, Founder & Director commented: “The validation from FoodBytes! and Rabobank is so important to us because the way we want to create impact is through the access and exposure to all of the businesses that were here. Winning the People’s Choice Award has certainly allowed us to do that and opened up so many opportunities for us.”
